• The library staff worked closely with the Library Board and consultants from WiLS, formerly Wisconsin Library Services, on the creation of a Strategic Plan to guide the library through 2027. Five strategic goals were developed to steer the library in the direction of positive growth. The five strategic goals are listed below:
  • Premier library, premier community,
  • A welcoming community forum,
  • Functional, relevant, and flexible spaces,
  • The library where you are,
  • Effective, strategic communications.
• Library space needs study was completed. Working with FEH Architects, a study was conducted to determine future library space needs. A report is available at the library for review. This study was funded by donations.
• The library was successful in receiving several grants to improve collections and outreach services. The grants are listed below:
  • AT&T Grants ($10,000.00) – One of 15 grant recipients across the county of the “Teens Teach Tech, powered by AT&T, PLA Incentive”. The grant allowed for the recruitment of two high school interns over the summer months to teach a series of Digital Connections workshops to middle school students. Digital Connections workshops help students learn digital competencies and how to be good digital citizens, as well as learning healthy digital habits.
  • American Library Association Great Stories Club – One of 29 libraries nationwide to take part in a reading and discussion program for underserved teens. This competitive grant helped library staff work with small groups of teens to read and discuss stories that emphasize the significance of our lives in the past, present, and future.
• The Friends of the W.J. Niederkorn Library sponsored the annual Summer Reading Program. Their donation covered the cost of a Mario performer. The entire program and Mario performance were a huge success. Over 500 children participated in this annual summer reading program.
• The Friends of the W.J. Niederkorn Library provided funds to establish the Library of Things collection. These unique offerings may be checked out in the same manner as other library materials.
• Enhancements to the library’s physical collection included improvements to the procedure with book/media vendors to ensure that materials can be delivered in a ready state to be circulated quicker than before.
• Two months of outreach visits to the senior population in the community have occurred.
  • A Mini library at the Harbor Campus Assisted Living Facility, including tech services and classes,
  • Delivery to the Port Washington Adult Community Senior Center, including tech services and classes.
• Tech services and classes within the library facility is another public service offered to library patrons.
• Two new book clubs which initiated in 2022 are continuing with a robust following and satisfactory participation.
• Passive programming, including seasonal take-home activities and supplies, the “This or That Board”, and the puzzle table are enjoyed by patrons of all ages.

• Participate in more community outreach and seek out more partnerships. Expand the library’s presence within the community and participate in recognizable community-wide events, as well as seek out the places where the library’s contribution is needed and valued.
• Optimize the adult fiction collection with the use of special projects and procedures. Create specific reports that will help ensure the library’s collection is fully serving the patrons that use it and create lists to assist in filling in the gaps within this collection.
