Please make payment of all delinquent water/sewer account balances by September 30 each year to avoid transfer of the delinquent balance and interest to the property tax bill. Tax roll notices will be mailed to owners and tenants in early October.

Landlords: Please contact the Water Billing Department at 284-5585 to confirm that your tenant accounts are current.

Many things may cause your water bill to be higher than normal. An often overlooked cause is a leaky toilet. Most toilet leaks are silent; you can't see or hear them. A silent leak can waste as much as 300 gallons of water a day. If you notice a spike in your water bill, this may be the cause. If you hear your toilet running when no one is using it, even for short periods of time, billable water IS being used.

Please be aware that weather conditions and snow coverage may necessitate that residential water bills be based on estimated reads rather than actual meter reads. The two water reads most likely to be affected by weather conditions are the reads conducted in early January and early March.

Most residential customers are familiar with the concept of estimates since electric bills are routinely based on estimated reads. Should an estimate be higher or lower than actual usage, it will correct itself at the time of the next actual read.

While the Water Department prefers to perform actual reads, the safety of staff is a priority. If you are concerned that the estimate will differ from actual usage we invite you to provide us with an actual read in place of the estimate. Please be aware that we would need this information promptly in early January or early March.

The City of Port Washington shall assess a final bill fee of $10.00 to cover administrative expenses for a special billing outside of the normal utility billing, along with $15.00 for a special meter reading by utility personnel.
