Mission Statement

The Election Administration is responsible for the oversight and conduction of legal and timely elections, assuring that each eligible resident is afforded the opportunity to vote.

Programs/Service Lines

Oversee Election Administration and support to successfully complete all required elections.
Provide Voter Registration to the residents.
Provide early In-Person Absentee Voting or Absentee Voting by Mail to residents.
Provide Voting for Indefinitely Confined voters in Residential Care Facilities.
Certify Nomination papers for Candidates running for local offices.
Recruit, train, and schedule Election Inspectors at all polling locations.
Maintenance, testing and security of city election equipment.
Canvass, Reconciliation and filing of required documents at the conclusion of each election including data entry of voter participation.

Voter Contact and Election Management -
- Repeat inquiries and contact with voters for voter registration and absentee voting questions and compliance issues - Continue to educate public to streamline response time and reduce repetitive interactions with voters.

2023 Achievements

Facilitating successful elections in 2023 while adhering to protocols for public health and safety along with the safety of the Election Inspectors and City Staff.
Management of election staffing with poll worker retirements. We successfully recruited and cross-training new workers in 2023 in preparation for the 2024 election season.
Adapted the process and layout of City Hall to better accommodate early in-person absentee voting, voter registration and mail out absentee voting.
Completed reorganization of internal layout of polling locations to better serve the volume of election day voters.
Additional building security has been installed; existing office vaults reactivated for storage. Secured documents include voter registration records, absentee ballots, official election day ballots, poll books and other secured election materials including all voting equipment.

2024 Goals

Updating of all ward and aldermanic district maps as the result of Local Redistricting. All election materials will be reviewed and thoroughly updated for the public and Election Inspectors.
Resident and Voter outreach on Election law and procedural changes for 2023, including notification to residents that may be affected due to Local Redistricting.
Continued recruitment of poll workers and advanced training for them along with Chief Inspectors as the election process continues to become more complex and requires more responsibility.
