• In October 2022, the Police Department received reaccreditation status from Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG). This is the department’s fourth reaccreditation.
• In late 2022, the department hired two officers and completed their Field Training Program. This 2023, the department experienced two retirements of officers, conducted testing and recruitment to replace those two officers with two new recruits, as well as completing their respective field training.
• Lieutenant Jerry Nye completed the six-week course with the Wisconsin Command College, becoming a certified Public Manager.
• On May 24, 2023, the Port Washington Police Department held its first Performance Recognition Awards Ceremony. This event provided the opportunity to show our gratitude to the officers of Port Washington Police Department and private citizens who have demonstrated exceptional heroism and shown commitment to their profession.
• Reorganized our Records Clerks’ duties and hours to better serve our community. Part of this reorganization created a more robust Crime Prevention program and Community Outreach. Programs and events completed in 2023 include: the return of our very successful Bike Rodeo after a two-year absence due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Job Fair at Port Washington High School, obtaining coupons for handouts for kids, participation in National Night Out, and other crime prevention programs for seniors, and planning of our October Open House.
• Revamp of our hiring process of officers to be more competitive and timelier in our recruitment efforts. Both the supply of and demand for qualified officers has changed in a time of increasing attrition, expanding law enforcement responsibilities, and decreasing resources.
• With extreme officer personnel shortages, officers stepped up to fill overtime shifts, providing coverage to maintain a safe city.
• The City of Port Washington obtained the distinction as the “42^nd Safest Suburb in the Nation” by SmartAsset.com.

• Continue the development of our Crime Prevention program and Community Outreach.
• Implementation of a re-vamped Citizens’ Police Academy.
• Recruit, hire, and train officers to get up to sworn allocated positions.
